I began my CPA journey back in March 2025. I decided to go to the same community college where I got my two Associate degrees 25 years ago (I can’t believe it’s been that long!) to begin my CPA journey. I enrolled in the Financial Accounting certificate program, which is designed for people like me (people who already have a Bachelor’s or higher degree that is not in Accounting and want to become a CPA).
In March 2025, after I enrolled in the certificate program, I took the first class for the program, Financial Accounting. It had been a long time since I had taken an accounting class, so I was worried about how I would fare in this class. I was very surprised that I did very well (I got an A!). After the success of this first class, I’m starting to believe that maybe I’ve finally found my true calling, after all of these years.
I just took my second class, Managerial Accounting. Though I did struggle a little bit with a few topics, I did well in this class, too (I got a very high B). I’m feeling pretty good about my chances of becoming a CPA based on the first two classes I’ve taken.
Next semester, I will be taking Intermediate Accounting 1. I am a little worried about these more advanced accounting classes. Hopefully, I’ll find the same success that I’ve found with the first two classes in this program!

Update on Us Against Them
Now that my summer class is finished, I’ll have about a month before fall classes start. That gives me a lot of time to work on Us Against Them, my long overdue debut novel.
Soon, I will be doing a reading of the first three chapters of Us Against Them. You can also check out the Events page for more details about these readings.
I plan on releasing Us Against Them in November 2025, along with my positive poetry collection, A Bright Light in a Dark World. I can’t believe that this novel is finally nearing completion. I’ve been working on it for nine years! I’m at the final editing stage right now.
You can read a sample chapter of Us Against Them while you wait for it be released. On the Downloads page is a link to the sample chapter. You will need to be registered and logged in to download it. If you have already created an account to make comments, then you can head over to the Downloads page and download it. However, if you’ve never commented or made an account, you’ll need to create one before you can download. Hello! Welcome to my site! I’m Melodía J. Parker, a writer and poet currently based in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC. I’m also a future CPA.
You may have remembered my domain name as MelodiaParker.com. I’ve made a small rebrand. I used to use this domain name (melodiawriter.com) before I used MelodiaParker.com, then I switched to my name. I’ve decided that I don’t want any more focus on my last name, so I’ve brought melodiawriter.com back from the domain graveyard. Because everyone was so used to my old domain name, for the next 10 years I’ve set it up so that it will always redirect to this domain, just in case you forget that I’ve rebranded.
I want everyone to focus on my first name (Melodía) and my “job” as a writer, so it’s now melodiawriter.com. All of my social media has also been updated to reflect the change from MelodiaParker to melodiawriter.
A quick FYI about this site. While I do allow commenting on my posts, all comments are moderated before appearing and commenting limited to commenters who are registered and logged in on the site. A bonus benefit of registering on my site, allows you access to my Downloads page, where I post sample chapters of my books.
